Making this announcement were (L to R in image) June Cosgrave of Metmasts.ie, Paul Barrett Commodore of Arklow Sailing Club, Harry Hermon Chief Executive of the ISA, Michael Martyn of Metmasts.ie and Córa Garvey of DMG Sailsports. This race is a challenging 34 nautical mile circumnavigation of the Arklow Bank Wind Farm. Unpredictable weather and difficult tidal currents will make this a closely fought race. It is estimated it will take about 6 hours to complete. This event is being hosted by Arklow Sailing Club, which is also celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. This will be the inaugural race, and we expect there to be many entries from competitors seeking to be the first to have their name etched on this prestigious new trophy which is being specially commissioned for the event. Arklow S.C. is located on the east coast of Ireland and invite entries from other clubs around Ireland and outside of Ireland. All are welcome to participate in this yacht race.
METMASTS.IE is the meteorological services division of Shamrock Communications Limited. The company was established in 1981 and is Irelands leading supplier of Masts, Towers, Wind Measuring Equipment and accessories. Michael Martyn, Managing Director said ”we are proud to be associated with this Wind Powered Sports event and we look forward to working with the Arklow Sailing Club to promote the race profile in the Irish Sailing calendar for many years to come. Córa Garvey of DMG Sailsports is co-ordinating the event on behalf of METMASTS.IE in conjunction with Arklow Sailing Club. Córa said “we are delighted to have been awarded the contract to promote the race on behalf of Metmasts.ie. We are confident that the Metmasts.ie Turbines Yacht Race will soon be a must do event offering a challenge to yachtsmen from near & far” Paul Barrett, Commodore Arklow Sailing Club. Paul said “we are very pleased to welcome Metmasts.ie on board as sponsors of the Turbines Yacht Race, and greatly appreciate their enthusiastic long term approach to this robust racing endeavour. I believe that yachts passing the very first starting gun will be sailing into history.” For more information on this event, or to download an application to the race, please visit www.arklowsc.com.
